Rents of govt-subsidised houses hike across country

Rents of government-subsidised dwellings went up by 5.5 per cent in Greater Helsinki and by 4.1 per cent elsewhere in Finland in 2024 from the year before, according to Statistics Finland.

Rents of non-subsidised dwellings increased by only 0.5 per cent in Greater Helsinki, while the growth in the rest of the country was 1.9 per cent.

In 2024, rents of non-subsidised dwellings increased most in Rovaniemi (2.8%), Oulu (2.7%) and Hämeenlinna (2.6%) and least in Vantaa (0.2%), Rauma (0.3%), Espoo (0,5%) and Helsinki (0.5%).

Rents of government-subsidised dwellings went up most in Kouvola (7.5%), Hämeenlinna (6.9%) and Helsinki (6.5%) and least in Kajaani (1.7%), Lappeenranta (2.0%) and Mikkeli (2.1%).

Since 2015, rents of non-subsidised dwellings have increased by 11.6% and rents of government-subsidised dwellings by 16.9%.
