Energy consumption grows by 2% in Jan-Sep

Total energy consumption in January-September period amounted to 964 petajoules (PJ) in Finland, which was two per cent more than one year before, according to Statistics Finland.

Of individual energy sources, the consumption of natural gas grew most, by 29 per cent, and the consumption of hard coal decreased most, by 36 per cent.

The consumption of renewable energy totalled 419 PJ, which was five per cent more than in last year's January to September.

The combined consumption of fossil fuels and peat amounted to 278 PJ, which was three per cent less than in the year before.

Total electricity consumption was 61 terawatt hours (TWh) or seven per cent more than in January to September of last year.

Carbon dioxide emissions from the energy use of fuels amounted to 19 million tonnes, which was four per cent less than in the year before.
