Job vacancies reduce by 10,800 in Finland in 2024

The number of job vacancies in 2024 was 43,700, whereas in 2023 the number was 54,500, according to Statistics Finland.

In 2024, the number of job vacancies decreased in all major regions.

The share of part-time jobs in job vacancies has decreased, while the share of fixed-term jobs has grown compared to the previous year.

Employers estimated that 42 per cent of the job vacancies were hard-to-fill, while the corresponding share was around 14 percentage points higher (56%) in the previous year.

On an average, 30,600 or 70 per cent of job vacancies in 2024 were offered by establishments owned by private enterprises, while the corresponding share in the previous year was 71 per cent.

In all, 6,900 or 16 per cent of job vacancies were in establishments of municipalities, joint municipal authorities or wellbeing services counties, while one year earlier the share was 17 per cent.

Job vacancies decreased especially in the industry groups public administration, education, human health and social work activities and in trade, transportation and storage, accommodation and food service activities.

The number of job vacancies also went down in industry and information and communication.

The number of job vacancies increased in the industry group of other service activities.

Examined on the annual level, the share of part-time jobs in job vacancies has decreased compared to the previous year while the share of fixed-term jobs has grown.

The share of job vacancies considered hard-to-fill has decreased. Nineteen per cent of job vacancies were part-time in 2024, while the corresponding share was 22 per cent in 2023.

The share of fixed-term jobs was 37 per cent of all job vacancies, while one year earlier the corresponding figure was 35 per cent. Employers estimated that an average of 42 per cent of the job vacancies were hard-to-fill, while the share was 56 per cent one year earlier.

The number of job vacancies decreased on the annual level in all major regions and in all size categories of establishments. The number of job vacancies decreased in every quarter of 2024 compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
