Unemployment rate rises to 9.4% in Finland in February

The unemployment rate of persons aged 15 to 74, or the proportion of the unemployed among the labour force stood at 9.4 per cent in February, having been 7.8 per cent one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

The unemployment rate of men stood at 10.1 per cent, which was 1.2 percentage points higher than one year before. The unemployment rate of women stood at 8.7 per cent, which was 2.0 percentage points higher than previous year.

According to Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey, the number of employed people aged 15 to 74 was 64,000 lower in February 2025 than one year ago.

The number of unemployed persons aged 15 to 74 was 43,000 higher in February 2025 compared to the previous year.

The trend of the employment rate among persons aged 20 to 64 was 76.0 per cent. The trend of the unemployment rate among persons aged 15 to 74 was 9.1 per cent.

In February 2025, the number of employed persons was 2,528,000 and that of unemployed persons 263,000.

There were 7,000 fewer employed men and 58,000 fewer employed women compared to the stipulated period of the previous year.

In February, the share of the unemployed aged 15 to 24 among the labour force stood at 23.9 per cent, which was 7.1 percentage points more than one year earlier.

The trend of the unemployment rate among young people was 20.2 per cent. The share of unemployed young people aged 15 to 24 among the population in the same age group was 11.4 per cent.
