Finland’s most comprehensive Internet connection service provider Ukkoverkot on Wednesday has begun a long term partnership with the home services arm of the Finnish Postal services with the view to make Internet connection available for every person in Finland no matter where they live.

The home services unit of the Finnish Post Office will act as the delivery and installation partner for Ukkoverkot – fixed wireless broadband services from now. A test run at Juankoski municipality was such a success that the collaboration was decided to be extended and deepened. The robust fixed trans-receiver installation into homes or company premises will guarantee high quality of service now and in the future.

The government has set a working modern Internet access as the nationwide goal for every citizen in the country. Ukkoverkot, an independent mobile data and Internet operator is making this into reality and pushes the government goal forward towards reaching this goal.

“Without connection to the Internet there is no connection to the world” is a truthful portrayal of the current times. Fast, stable and reliable Internet connection is not ‘given’ even in a country like Finland – tens of thousands of Finns are still completely without the possibility of a modern working connection. We exist to change this,” Ukkoverkot CEO Mikko Uusitalo said.

“Wide scale digitalization is not possible unless stable, trustworthy and reasonably priced data communication is available for the entire community. Consumers, companies and authorities all included. Our mission is to connect when and where it really matters now when connections really mean the world,” Uusitalo added.

The Finnish Ukkoverkot has developed a state of the art fixed wireless solution for homes and businesses targeted to the municipalities. The solution is based on a small LTE wireless reception antenna installed into the outer wall of the house and a base station operating on Ukkoverkot own 2.6GHz LTE spectrum installed on a site nearby. Because Ukkoverkot uses its own base station, connection will not slow down even when the seasonal cabin goers using their mass operator connectivity are surfing the Internet.

A fixed wireless connection is possible for everyone in Finland and the needs of every municipality will be met by designing a system best suitable for their specific needs. Ukkoverkot is used for example by the Finnish Defence forces and FinnHEMS-rescue helicopters, and the solution is already deployed municipality wide in six Finnish municipalities.

This solution provides a significantly lower cost alternative to traditional fiber connection and can be deployed in 10 week. In the next three years Ukkoverkot expects to deploy over 300 base stations which will be used by 9000-18,500 subscribers.
