Number of enterprise openings increases 14% in Q2

The number of enterprise openings increased by 13.8 per cent in the second quarter of 2018 from the respective quarter of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.

Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in professional, scientific and technical activities

According to Statistics Finland, there were 8,485 enterprise openings in the second quarter of 2018. Enterprise openings increased by 13.8 per cent from the second quarter of 2017, when they numbered 7,459.

Enterprise openings accounted for 2.3 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the second quarter of 2018.

Examined by industry, the number of enterprise openings was highest in professional, scientific and technical activities, where they numbered 1,162, or 13.7 per cent of all enterprise openings in the second quarter. In construction, enterprise openings numbered 974 (11.5%) and in trade 962 (11.3%).

Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Uusimaa, where it was 3,166. The number of enterprise openings was next highest in Pirkanmaa (790) and in Varsinais-Suomi (718). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in North Ostrobothnia (2.7%).

Examined by sub-regional unit, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,979), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (634) and Turku (514). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Oulu sub-regional unit (3,2%).

Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in Helsinki (1,573), followed by Espoo (512), Tampere (382), Vantaa (348) and Turku (326).
