Rovaniemi hosts Jutajaiset on June 30-July 2

The 39th edition of Jutajaiset, the most swinging culture and folk festival of the Arctic region, begins in Rovaniemi on June 30 with a view to present the best Arctic culture by the best-quality artists.

The organisers said the three-day festival will include music, dance, theatre, and circus where about 180 artists are expected to perform.

“The festival’s main goal is to present the best Arctic culture, artists and music for everyone to enjoy. You will feel, hear and taste Jutajaiset everywhere around the city centre during the festival weekend,” the festival director and chief of Lapin Nuorisoseurat, Paula Kähkönen told the Daily Finland.

On the opening day, the show will begin at 18:00 at the Korundi House of Culture where accordion music will be performed by skilful players of all ages from all around Lapland and Finland, Kähkönen said. The accordion music event will continue until 21.00.

On the same day, Double Bill Evening of Dance Theatre will be held in Wiljami Culture House, where the Dance Theatre Tsuumi: Kake (On the Way to Stardom) and the Dance Theatre Minimi (Moustache) will be performed.

Another event on the opening day is New Northern Folk which will begin at Café Kauppayhtiö at 19:00 and will continue till 02:00 am.

“[The festival is] the most exciting club event in Rovaniemi this summer! Fresh northern music [will be presented] together with stand-up, dance and theatre performances inside and outside of Café Kauppayhtiö,” she said.

A free concert performed by the band Hyväthyssykät will also be held on the first day at Hostel Café Koti for one hour from 16:00.

On the following day, choirs and folk musicians will perform at the Korundi House of Culture. This event will celebrate the centenary of Finland’s independence by exhibiting Lapland’s beauty and history in several folk and choir music performances.

New Northern Folk Vol. 2, the most exciting club event in Rovaniemi this summer, will be performed at Café Kauppayhtiö, while Jump for Joy and the Magic of Circus and Dance will be performed at Wiljami Culture House on the second day. This show will include amazing northern talents in folk dance, contemporary dance, and circus art brought together on one stage.

On the same day the event Wimme&Rinne, traditional yoik singing meets modern soundscapes to create a unique concert experience in the Rovaniemi Church.

A free event will also be available on the second day at Lordi Square from 13:00-14:00 where dance groups will perform.

On the concluding day, the Korundi House of Culture will host an afternoon of fun for families offering music, dance and circus together with workshops on art and folklore for children and their parents. The events are open for all but tickets will be needed to see children’s music orchestra Loiskis and the circus Taika-Aika in Korundi concert hall at 15:00.

After the events at Korundi, the family day continues at Dance Picnic that takes place next to the Angry Birds Activity Park. The organisers encouraged the audience to bring their own snacks, enjoy small performances and join the dance if anyone wants. This event is also free but a summer theatre performance starts at the same venue for which tickets will be needed.

Tickets to all events will be sold at the venue one hour before the start of the show. Tickets will be also available in advance from lipputoimisto.fi.
