The City of Espoo will not organise a joint New Year’s celebration for its residents this year due to worsening coronavirus situation, said the City in a press release on Tuesday.

The City authority recommend that people also avoid private fireworks. The authority hope that this recommendation will reduce large gatherings due to the deterioration of the coronavirus situation in Uusimaa.

The authority also cancelled cultural and sports events in Espoo until 17 January 2022.

The people are urged to check the fireworks restriction areas on the website of the Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department.

Espoo will bring in the New Year with a swinging concert, which will be streamed live to home audiences from Espoo Cultural Centre on 31 December. The show starts at 18:00.

The concert will feature the Espoo Big Band, conducted by Ville Vannemaa, and singers Ilkka Alanko, Nina Tapio and Sami Pitkämö.
