Finnish museums saw a huge increase in the number of visitors in 2022, according to the Finnish Heritage Agency (Museo Virasto) preliminary data.
The museum were visited a total of 6,856,789, which was 2.5 million more than the previous year, said the Agency in a press release.
The year 2022 was, however, still partly exceptional in the operation of museums as corona restrictions were still in effect at the beginning of the year.
The number of visits to museums started to increase sharply in 2016. The year 2019 saw a record 7.6 million visit.
The Covid-19 pandemic restrictions reduced the number of visits to museums in 2020 and 2021, when museums were closed for long periods of time, fewer events were organized and audience numbers were limited.
Most visits were recorded Helsinki City Museum (240,495), Amos Rex ( 227,760 ) Kiasma Museum (222, 697) , Finnish Museum of Natural History (210,905) and finally the National Museum (181,088).
