The Youth Company of the Finnish National Ballet will perform at the Next Generation Festival organised by the Royal Opera House in London in June, said a press release on Monday.
The festival brings together groups of youth dancers from around the world, with six dance companies taking part this year.
The Youth Company of the Finnish National Ballet will open the festival with their performances at the Linbury Theatre in Covent Garden on 7 and 8 June.
At the Next Generation Festival, the Youth Company of the Finnish National Ballet will perform the new work A Collection of Connections by Finnish-British choreographer Kristian Lever, Fragment by choreographer Emrecan Tanış, who also works as a dancer at the Finnish National Ballet, and Over Glow by Jorma Elo, one of Finland’s most internationally renowned ballet choreographers, the resident choreographer of Boston Ballet. The Youth Company staged the world premiere of Lever's piece in April in Helsinki.
The Youth Company of the Finnish National Ballet, established in 2013, comprises 14 young dancers. About one-third of the international group are Finnish, while the rest of the dancers have come to Finland from the United States, Italy, Switzerland, France, Japan, and Spain.
The Youth Company is financially supported by the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
