Faadumo Dahir became the mother of this year’s Helsinki Day baby after the baby was born at 01.30 am on Monday, said the City of Helsinki in a press release.

The City of Helsinki has been celebrating the first baby born in Helsinki on the city’s birthday on June 12 for the last 58 years.

The baby is a boy. He weighed 3838 grams and was 50 cm tall at birth.

On the morning of the Helsinki Day, City Mayor Juhana Vartiainen visited the family at the Women’s Hospital to congratulate them and give the baby a baby blanket of the Kaiko Copper Baby selection made of organic cotton as a present from the city.

Kaiko is a Finnish clothing brand that produces ethically manufactured clothing. Seven per cent of the profits from Kaiko clothing is used to train women in developing countries.

“I warmly wish the new Helsinki baby all the best! Helsinki is a city where people can express themselves, create opportunities and seize them – this will remain true as the new arrival grows up,” said Vartiainen.
