Yle editor resigns protesting Eurovision partnership despite Israel´s joining

Miikka Koivisto, Music Editor of the national broadcasting corporation Yle on Monday announced his resignation protesting against the partnership of the corporation with European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which is organizing the Eurovision despite participation of Israel in the contest.

Accusing Israel of committing genocide in Palestine, he announced the resignation in his podcast on the same day of hosting a music programme for the last time citing that the decision was taken due Yle´s participation in the Eurovision.

He had been was hosting the music show for YleX radio since 2018.

"This is my little protest," he said.

Earlier on Monday, several hundreds of musicians and music industry professionals reiterated their call for boycotting the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) protesting against the participation of Israel in the contest.

The Eurovision Song Contest started in Malmö, Sweden on Tuesday night.
