Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and his Estonian counterpart Jüri Ratas will attend the Eesti-Soome cycling event to be held on August 12 in Helsinki to mark Estonia’s independence centenary, said the Finnish government in a press release issued on Saturday.
Event participants may choose between two different cycling tours, both of them starting and finishing at the Kaivopuisto Park in southern Helsinki.
One of the tours is the Eesti cycling tour of 24.2 kilometres inspired by Estonia’s Independence Day (February 24). The second one is the Eesti 100 sportive ride of 100 kilometres.
After the cycling tours have ended, there will be centenary celebrations, a soup lunch and musical performance in the finish area.
The prime ministers will fire the starting shots for the Eesti 100 sportive ride at 10:30 am. The prime ministers themselves will also cycle the 24.2-km route.
The Eesti-Soome cycling event is arranged by the Prime Minister’s Office and Eesti Vabariik 100 in cooperation with Suomen Pyöräilyry and Cycle Club Helsinki ry.
Participation in the event is free of charge and the registration is open until August 6 Monday. Registrations are binding. Participants will be accepted in the order of registration due to a limited number of available spaces.
