Dublin Horse Show closes, attracting over 100,000 visitors

2018 Dublin Horse Show, a five-day international horse jumping event, ended here at Royal Dublin Society (RDS) on Sunday evening, attracting an estimated over 100,000 visitors from home and abroad, said organizers.

The climax of the event came on Friday when eight teams coming from Europe and the American continent competed for the title of Longines FEI (International Federation for Equestrian Sports) Nations Cup of Ireland, the last leg of the European Dvision 1 series held at the main arena of the RDS.

Mexico stunned the audience by beating all the seven other teams in the competition. The team got a thunder of applause when it received the trophy of the match from the hands of Irish President Michael D. Higgins.

Other major competitions conducted in the five-day event included Land Rover Puissance on Saturday and Longines International Grand Prix of Ireland on Sunday.

A total of 133 competitions of various classes were held at different venues inside the RDS, a vast building complex in the Irish capital, in the week-long event.

Horse dances, horse vehicle parades, horse lectures and fairs selling horse-related products and services were also held during the show which was opened by the Dublin City Mayor Nial Ring on Wedensday, Aug. 8.

Over 1,500 horses and ponies from inside and outside Ireland participated in the show, according to organizers.

Dublin Horse Show is an annual event which first started in 1864 with some of the annual gatherings suspended during the two world wars. This year's show is the 145th edition of the century-old event. Over the years, the show has evolved into a major public event of mixed entertainment in the country.
