School lunch will be available for all the students from grade 1 to grade 9 in Helsinki till Friday amidst the ongoing closure, said the City of Helsinki in a press release.

The government on Monday declared a state of emergency in the country following the outbreak of coronavirus infection and has decided to keep all educational institutions closed from Wednesday to April 13.

The pupils can still go to their schools to eat lunch, regardless of whether they are studying from home or at the school.

Due to the coronavirus situation, there may be changes and school-specific variations in the menus.

The students can obtain detailed information about the lunch hours and school lunches from their own schools or through Wilma.

A decision on extending Helsinki’s school catering in the upcoming weeks will be made later.

However, school catering will nonetheless be arranged for grade 1–3 pupils in contact instruction, whose parents work in so-called critical industries, and for children with a decision about special support.

At day-care centres, regular food services will be maintained, but the menus may be changed or vary between centre to centre.
