Helsinki City Library has been forced to reduce the number of subscriptions to various publications, said a press release of the City of Helsinki on Monday.
Due to the increased prices of print newspapers and magazines, the share of total appropriations spent on print publications now equals the sum spent on acquisitions of literature for children and young people.
At the same time, the availability of electronic newspapers and magazines has improved, making them more popular.
The decision is also partially the result of the coronavirus crisis, which has kept some library services closed.
The cutbacks have been made with careful and due consideration to regional coverage and the availability of e-publications.
Unfortunately, it is possible that this change has resulted in the removal of favourite magazine of the readers from library selections.
