Ranking falls by 35 in 5 years
Helsinki University drops 10 notches in Shanghai Ranking

The University of Helsinki this year has been ranked 92nd on the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), known as Shanghai Ranking published on Monday.
The ranking of the university continued to downgrade significantly during the recent years.
The position of the university has been downgraded by 10 from the previous year’s place of 82, by 18 from the place of 74th in 2020, by 29th from the place of 63rd in 2019 and by 35th from the place of 57 in 2018.
After the University of Helsinki, the best Finnish universities were the Aalto University, ranked in the bracket of 301 to 400 followed by Tampere University, University of Oulu and University of Turku, all were ranked in the bracket of 401 to 500.
Harvard University ranked top on the list for the 20th consecutive year, followed by Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Cambridge, University of Berkeley, University of Princeton, University of Oxford, University of Columbia, University of Caltech and University of Chicago.
Since 2003, ARWU has been presenting the world's top universities annually based on transparent methodology and objective third-party data.
It has been recognized as the precursor of global university rankings and the most trustworthy one. This year, more than 2500 institutions were scrutinized, and the best 1000 universities in the world are published.
