More women complete higher education than men in 2023

A total of 3,581,800 students completed a post-comprehensive level qualification in Finland in 2023, according to Statistics Finland.

Seventy-five per cent of the population aged 15 or over had completed a post-comprehensive level qualification.

Seventy-seven per cent of women and 73 per cent of men had completed a post-comprehensive level qualification.

The region with the highest educated population was Uusimaa, where 40 per cent had completed a tertiary level qualification

Those aged 45 to 49 were the highest educated age group, as 48 per cent of them had attained a tertiary level qualification.

The most popular field of education was technology, where 84 per cent of those with qualifications were men and 16 per cent women.

Twenty per cent of those aged 20 to 24 had no post-comprehensive level qualification, 23 per cent of men and 17 per cent of women.
