65.5% high school grads in 2023 quit study

A total of 65.5 per cent of passers of the matriculation examination in spring 2023 were left outside education, according to Statistics Finland.

There were 26,400 new completers of the matriculation examination in the spring term 2023, of whom 57 per cent were women.

Seventy-seven per cent of new passers of the matriculation examination applied immediately for further studies, but only 34.5 per cent continued studies immediately.

Twenty-one per cent of new passers of the matriculation examination continued in university education, 12 per cent in university of applied sciences (Polytechnic Institutes) education and 1.5 per cent in vocational education.

Immediate entrance to education by passers of the matriculation examination in spring 2023 decreased by two per cent from the year before.

In all, 65.5 per cent of passers of the matriculation examination in spring 2023 did not have a place for further studies.

Seventy-seven per cent of passers of the matriculation examination in 2020 were studying in Finland three years after graduation.

Twenty-four per cent of attainers of initial vocational qualifications in 2020 were studying three years after graduation.

Twenty-eight per cent of new students in university education in 2023 had completed some previous tertiary level degree.
