British Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed Friday afternoon she will form a Westminster government, helped by members of Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).

Speaking minutes after a 15-minute audience at Buckingham Palace with Queen Elizabeth, May announced her plan outside 10 Downing Street.

She said May she will form a government that will provide certainty and work to keep Britain safe and secure. She also reaffirmed her commitment to leaving the European Union.

May also repeated the pledge she made during the general election campaign "to build a country in which no one is left behind".

In a brief statement, May said "What the country needs more than anything is certainty. Only the Conservative and Unionist party can provide this. Now lets get to work," she said.

She said the Conservatives and the DUP will work together "having enjoyed a strong relationship over many years".

The 318 seats won by the Conservatives in the election on Thursday, plus the 10 DUP seats will give May the majority she needs in the House of Commons.

In the election the Conservatives won most seats, but short of winning enough for an overall majority.

One result remains to be declared that will go to either the Conservatives or Labour.
