Woman drowned after Russian boat sinks in Gulf of Finland

At least one passenger was killed after a Russian motor boat carrying nine people sank in the Gulf of Finland near St. Petersburg on Saturday night, TASS news agency reported Sunday.

A women died in hospital after she was taken ashore by rescuers along with seven others from the capsized boat, TASS said, citing a spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee's northwestern transport department.

Five of the saved passengers remain hospitalized, while two people were discharged after receiving treatment. One is still missing.

The incident was possibly caused by gales, according to a source in St. Petersburg's emergency services.
