The Delegation of the European Union in Sudan on Tuesday announced that it would allocate 1.7 million euros (1.9 million U.S. dollars) to support promotion of democratic principles and human rights in Sudan.

A new Call for Proposals, under which the delegation would provide funds, is supervised by the program of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights for Sudan (EIDHR), known as Country-Based Support Scheme (CBSS) Sudan 2016-2017, said the delegation in a statement.

It further noted that the proposal would be focused on media, equality between men and women and protecting defenders of human rights.

Since 2005, the EIDHR program has supported over 120 projects focusing on promotion of human rights, peace and civic and voter education.
