Temperatures have been forecast to rise up to 40 degrees Celsius for Germany's typically warm regions along the Rhine in the coming week, with the rest of Germany also expecting unusual heat, according to a statement on the official website of the German Weather Service (DWD) on Sunday.

Temperatures will rise to 34 degrees on Monday in large parts of Germany, with only coastal regions staying a little cooler, and it will get hotter everyday until Wednesday, the DWD said, "Even record-breaking levels of 40 degrees are not completely ruled out" in certain regions along the Rhine.

The heat with temperatures between 30 and 38 degrees will linger towards the weekend in the following week, especially in the middle and in the southern parts of Germany, according to the DWD.

The weather will also stay dry for most parts of Germany in the following week due to high atmospheric pressure that leads to little cloud formation, the DWD said.
