Greek ferries remained docked at ports across the country on Wednesday due to a 24-hour strike called by the Pan-Hellenic Seamens' Federation (PNO) demanding pay rise.
Greek seamen ask for a new collective labor agreement which will include a wage increase far over the 2 percent suggested by shipping companies.
Following Greece's exit from the bailout programs last August, it is time that employees seize the fruits of their sacrifices of the past ten years, labor unions argued.
"Our proposal already exceeds our space to maneuver in a very difficult period," the Association of Passenger Shipping Operators responded in a press release, noting that companies have also faced increasing operation cost in the past two years.
The strike which has affected services nationwide has left thousands of Greeks and foreign visitors stranded in the islands and the mainland.
