Malta allowed 40 migrants aboard German NGO vessel Alan Kurdi to disembark, and the migrants will be distributed among some EU members.
Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on Saturday that the migrants rescued by the search and rescue vessel will be transferred to a patrol boat of the Armed Forces of Malta outside Maltese territorial waters, and disembark in Malta.
"Following request by #Germany, #Malta will allow 40 migrants on German vessel #AlanKurdi to transfer to @Armed_Forces_MT asset, enter port. German gov & @EU_Commission arranged for all persons to be distributed amongst number of EU MemberStates," Muscat wrote on Twitter.
Muscat added that none will remain in Malta.
On Thursday 40 asylum seekers were rescued off the Libyan coast.
The NGO has requested a port of safety. Italy refused their request.
