Several detainees escaped from an immigration detention center near Stockholm overnight, Swedish news SVT reported on Sunday.

A total of twelve detainees, some of them awaiting deportation, escaped from the Swedish Migration Agency facility in Marsta, north of Stockholm, around 3 a.m. local time on Sunday.

By 7 a.m., police had apprehended six of the escapees. According to SVT, the incident happened as a result of 80 people being deported on Tuesday to Afghan capital Kabul.

Police duty officer Mats Almquist told SVT that the persons are believed to have broken out of the facility by smashing a window and then escaping on foot.

Escaping from a detention center is not a crime in and of itself, but SVT reported that some of the persons involved could now face prosecution for breaking the window in order to escape.
