One person was killed and two others suffered injuries after a man attacked them with a knife on Friday afternoon in a park south of Paris, local prosecutor confirmed.
In a brief declaration, Laure Beccuau, prosecutor of Creteil, the city in the prefecture of Val-de-Marne where the park was located, said the assault, whose motive remained unknown, has left one dead and two others injured. The situation of the wounded is "under check" in hospital.
The perpetrator was shot dead by police, she added, declining to give further details on his identity.
The prosecutor told reporters at the scene that the knifeman tried to attack other people who "managed to avoid him."
Investigators from judicial police of Val-de-Marne took over the probe and were interviewing witnesses to establish what happened and identify the attacker and his motives, the prosecutor said.
According to BFMTV news channel, the man walked barefoot in the park and randomly attacked passers-by at around 2:00 p.m.local time (1300 GMT).
