The attack injuring five people by two inmates at a maximum-security jail in England was classed as "terror attack", the Metropolitan Police said Friday.

The attack took place on Thursday morning at HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire to the north of London. Four prison officers and one nurse were injured in the incident.

One officer sustained serious stab injuries to his head, face and back when attacked from behind by two prisoners wearing fake suicide vests with bladed weapons, local media reported.

All five injured have been discharged from hospital, said the report.

Metropolitan police said counter-terrorism police are investigating the attack.

One attacker is serving a sentence for a terrorism offence while the other had been jailed for a violent offence, the BBC reported.
