A bridge under construction in Ludvika, a town north west of Stockholm, has collapsed, causing a dozen of injuries, Swedish Radio reported on Thursday.

According to Swedish Radio, the most recent police report said 12 people were injured, four of them seriously.

"The rescue services are sending all they have," police spokesperson Stefan Wickberg told Swedish news agency TT.

According to Swedish Television, a total of two ambulance helicopters and seven road ambulances have been sent to the scene and emergency services spared all the resources they can. All the injured have been transferred to Falun Hospital for care.

The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon during construction of a road bridge over a railway line that runs through the center of Ludvika. It collapsed onto an active railway track where trains pass towards Falun, Gavle, and Hallsberg.

The accident caused blockage in both directions of the train from Hallsberg, Orebro Borlange, Gavle and Hallsberg, Orebro on to Fagersta and Vasteras.

Swedish traffic authority has no forecast for when the trains can run normally again, Swedish Television reported.

Swedish Transport Administration has no immediate answer to what is behind the collapse.
