5 killed in avalanche in Austria

Five people were killed in an avalanche on a mountain in central Austria on Sunday morning, said police.

The avalanche happened at 9:30 a.m. on the Dachstein, a skiing resort near Hallstatt, according to police in Upper Austria.

Although the rescue workers were on site within a short time, all the help came too late, and the five people could only be recovered dead, confirmed the police.

The five victims were apparently traveling with a group, said local media.
