6.1 magnitude quake hits off Amsterdam Island, France

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 jolted 96 km north of Amsterdam Island, France at 12:27 p.m. (0657 GMT) on Sunday local time, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 36.9637 degrees south latitude and 77.4459 degrees east longitude.
The island locates in the southern Indian Ocean with an area of 55 sqaure km. Since there are no permanent residents on the small island, no damages or casualties were reported yet.
