Coronavirus deaths in Netherlands pass 3,000

The death toll from the novel coronavirus in the Netherlands exceeded the 3,000 mark after 189 more people were reported dead over the past 24 hours, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) announced on Wednesday.

Now the death toll stood at 3,134. The daily toll is the highest since the 234 deaths of last Tuesday, April 7.

According to the RIVM, not all of those reported dead have been hospitalized or have died in the past 24 hours. "Some patients are reported later. Therefore, data from previous days are often supplemented."

The number of people who tested positive rose by 734 to 28,153, while those admitted to hospital increased by 188 to 9,127.
