Opposition supporters in Belarus held a mass rally in the capital Minsk, two weeks after a controversial election gave President Alexander Lukashenko another term in office, according to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Tens of thousands filled the central square despite a heavy police presence, reported BBC, quoting its Minks correspondents.
The agitators said Lukashenko stole the election and want him to resign.
Meanwhile, the president has vowed to crush unrest and blamed the dissent on unnamed "foreign-backed revolutionaries", said the report.
Recent protests were met with a crackdown in which at least four people were killed. Demonstrators said they had been tortured in prisons; the BBC added.
