Russia logs 23,508 daily COVID-19 infections

Russia recorded 23,508 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 6,312,185, the official monitoring and response center said Monday, reported Xinhua.

The nationwide death toll grew by 785 to 160,137, while the number of recoveries increased by 14,893 to 5,640,783.

Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 3,330 new cases, taking its total to 1,511,940.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Friday that mass vaccinations and other preventive measures in place have led to a significant decrease in cases and hospitalizations in the capital.

He further announced that it will no longer be necessary to wear medical gloves in Moscow's shopping centers and public transport, adding that masks will remain mandatory.
