German discount retailer chain Lidl is recalling biscuits, tea and protein bars due to a high content of active ingredients containing hemp, reportd dpa.

Several products from the Czech manufacturer Euphoria Trade sro were affected, Lidl announced on Wednesday.

An increased content of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was found in the products. Consumption could have undesirable health consequences, such as mood swings and fatigue.

"Due to this, customers should definitely pay attention to the recall and stop using the products," the company warned.

Commerce in products with a higher content of intoxicating THC is prohibited in many countries.

In mid-August, Lidl removed all hemp products in its promotional assortment as a precautionary measure, because some of them are currently being investigated by the authorities.

According to the investigators, it is about a possible violation of German narcotics law.

A spokesperson of the public prosecutor's office in Germany said that it was being verified "whether the products offered contain THC or CBD."

According to the German Office for Consumer Protection, a licence is required for products containing cannabidiol (CBD).
