Russia reports record number of daily COVID-19 deaths

Russia has confirmed 39,849 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, down from 40,096 the day before, taking the nationwide tally to 8,432,546, the official monitoring and response center said on Friday, reported Xinhua.

The nationwide death toll grew by 1,163, the highest daily increase since the start of the pandemic, to 236,220. The number of recoveries increased by 30,462 to 7,302,515.

Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 7,511 new cases, down from 8,440 the day before, taking its total to 1,802,521.

Over 56.7 million Russian citizens have received at least one dose of a vaccine as of Friday and more than 50.9 million of them had been fully vaccinated.

The level of herd immunity in the country stands at 46.8 percent, according to the center.
