Two French railway security agents opened fire late Monday night at a man with a knife in Paris Saint-Lazare Railway Station, reported Xinhua, quoting French television BFMTV on Tuesday.

According to the report, around midnight, a man took out a knife from his bag and ran towards the agents of SUGE (French railway police), threatening them and shouting "Allahu Akbar," or "God is Greatest."

The French national railway company SNCF said that the two agents used their guns to defend themselves and put the suspect under control.

"The injured individual was taken care of by the emergency services," it added.

Local media report said that Paris prosecutors had opened an investigation into the attempted murder and promoting terrorism and armed violence.
