The Munich public prosecutor's office has charged a former senior BMW employee with breach of trust and commercial bribery in business dealings, reported dpa.

The man is alleged to have collected more than 2.4 million euros in bribes when awarding contracts to management consultants between 2007 and 2015.

The managing director of a - now insolvent - consulting firm was also charged with bribery and aiding and abetting breach of trust, the Munich Higher Regional Court said on Wednesday.

Three defendants connected with the consulting firm were charged with aiding and abetting the alleged crimes. The investigators put the damage to BMW at around 2.7 million euros.

All five defendants deny the charges. The court said that one of the defendants "has been in pre-trial detention in the matter since mid-December 2021", without giving any further details.

The Economic Crimes Chamber at the Munich Regional Court must now decide whether to admit the charges and proceed to a trial.
