Two people have died after being hit by falling trees during Storm Malik in Britain, local police said on Saturday.

A nine-year-old boy was killed after a tree fell in Winnothdale, Staffordshire, on Saturday afternoon, while a 60-year-old woman was killed by a falling tree in Aberdeen, according to local police.

As an amber weather warning was in place along the east coast of Scotland and north-east England, power lines have been affected with thousands of homes in Scotland and England without electricity.

About 36,000 people are still off power as a result of the storm, said Northern Powergrid which supplies power to about 3.9 million homes in the northeast of England and Yorkshire.

BBC reported that in Glasgow, people living near a landmark tower have been evacuated from their homes due to safety concern.

Much of the rest of Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England were under a yellow Met Office warning for wind.

Met Office said a second storm, Storm Corrie, was forecast to bring further high winds to Scotland on Sunday.
