The German government believes the number of international officials observing the conflict in Ukraine should be increased, reported dpa.

Talks are proceeding with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) with a view to "maintaining and boosting effectiveness in this extremely critical phase," a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in Berlin.

He noted that certain states had withdrawn personnel for safety reasons. "Germany has not done so," he said.

The spokesperson noted that, in the current phase of disinformation, false-flag operations and attempts at deception, the work of observers in preventing escalation was particularly important.
