Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa on Tuesday evening arrived in Kiev to meet in person with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, international media reported.

The meeting was discussed with President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, participants have said, reported dpa.

Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg and the US government had also been informed.

However, there is no official mandate for the meeting from the European Council, as the 27 EU member countries did not pass an official resolution.

The trip was a Polish idea, after the EU warned of potential security risks, reported British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Poland's Mateusz Morawiecki said it was in Kyiv that history was being made.

The Ukrainian capital has been under fire from Russian troops since the invasion began on February 24.
