Germany's Continental suffers cyberattack, but operations unaffected

German automotive supplier Continental said on Wednesday it had been hit by a cyberattack, but that its operations had not been impacted, reported dpa.

"Continental's business activities have not been affected at any point," Continental said.

A Continental spokesman said from company headquarters in Hanover that its IT department had detected the attack at the start of August, when hackers attempted to infiltrate company systems.

The company, which makes car vehicles systems, tyres and automotive electronics, had maintained control over the systems, he said. No data had been locked and no ransom demanded.

IT systems of others had also not been affected by the attack, the spokesman said.

External experts are assisting with investigating the incident, and the German Office for Information Security (BSI) has been informed.
