Shortly after the statue was unveiled from underneath a red cloth, schoolchildren and tourists were given the opportunity to have their picture taken with it.
According to Madame Tussauds, work on the statue began the day the chancellor was sworn in, December 8, 2021. The statue weighs 35 kilograms and, like the chancellor himself, is 1.70 metres tall.
It took about six weeks and 8 kilograms of wax to recreate the politician's head. Twenty artists worked on the figure. Measurements were taken through videos and photos, as he could not attend a sitting.
Once the wax figure has been displayed at the Reichstag, it will join its political counterparts in the museum, which include those of Barack Obama, Helmut Kohl and Mikhail Gorbachev.
