Germany's Lindner reiterates call for 'sound public finances'

Budget discipline to tackle record inflation cannot fall by the wayside as Europe addresses its multiple crises, warned German Finance Minister Christian Lindner as he arrived at a two-day meeting of European Union finance ministers in Prague,reported dpa.

"We have to deal with inflation and the mean of fiscal policy is sound public finances, reducing debts," Lindner said speaking alongside French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire.

"We have to support our private households, especially the most vulnerable, but sound public finances are more important than in the last decade," Lindner noted.

EU finance minister are to discuss different measures taken by national governments to support households and businesses struggling with inflation driven by strongly rising prices for energy and food.
