A 29-year-old man has been found dead in his cell in Berlin's Plötzensee prison, reported dpa.
According to initial findings, the city state's Justice Department assumes that the inmate committed suicide on Friday night, a spokeswoman said on Saturday.
However, investigations were still under way to shed light on the background to the death.
The man was serving a prison sentence for a serious violent offence and had been in custody since December 2020. According to the spokesperson, his regular release would have been in March 2025.
According to dpa information, the man is a brother of the 34-year-old Afghan woman who was killed in July 2021. The accused in the case are two other brothers of the woman, who allegedly killed their sister because she had not submitted to the moral standards of her family.
The men, aged 27 and 23, have been on trial for joint murder in Berlin since last March.
