German howitzers damaged in Ukraine war to be repaired in Slovakia

German-made weapons damaged during the war in Ukraine will be repaired in Slovakia in future, according to the Defence Ministry in Berlin, reported dpa.

The repairs can start "immediately," Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht said on Tuesday on the sidelines of a meeting with her EU counterparts in Brussels.

Any equipment that Germany was delivering to the Ukrainian forces also had to be able to be repaired, she said.

More specifically, the deal with Slovakia concerns self-propelled howitzers and multiple rocket launchers, Lambrecht said.

Both Germany and the Netherlands have supplied Kiev with howitzers to help fight back Russian forces, which invaded the country in February.
