The Spanish government sees constitutional order in Catalonia recovering after former speaker of the Catalan regional parliament, Carme Forcadell, accepted the application of Article 155 appearing in a Spanish court on Friday.

The Spanish government speaker Inigo Mendez de Vigo said after a cabinet meeting that the fact that Forcadell had accepted the application of Article 155 of the Spanish constitution, which sees the central government taking control of the region's main bodies, was proof that the measures passed as part of the article were effective.

"The recovery of the constitutional order is starting to be a reality" in Catalonia, he said.

Mendez de Vigo added that insecurity created by separatism could come to an end on Dec. 21 when regional elections take place in the region. They were called by Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy after dissolving the Catalan parliament under the application of the Article 155.

The minister said Forcadell and other members of the Catalan bureau of chamber had collaborated in answering all questions and refusing the unilateral path towards independence.
