German police have taken down political posters with a banned Nazi slogan belonging to the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the Bavarian city of Passau, reported dpa.

The posters say "Alles für Deutschland" (Everything for Germany) - a slogan used by the Storm Troopers (SA) paramilitary wing of the Nazi party, the use of which is punishable by law, according to the Bavarian information centre against extremism.

The police became aware of the posters on Friday evening. A small number were seized that evening.

The criminal investigation department is looking into the case, in close cooperation with the public prosecutor's office, on suspicion of criminally relevant content.

The regional leader of the AfD in the southern state of Bavaria, Stephan Protschka, said on Monday that the posters had not been authorized by the regional party branch and probably came from a local district parliament candidate.

Protschka said he immediately called the head of the district association and demanded that the posters be removed. "Something like that has no place in the AfD," said Protschka.

"There are certain slogans that are simply not used - and 'Everything for Germany' is one of them."
