At least 65 German citizens are currently unable to leave Turkey due to travel bans, reported dpa.
In 2023 alone, 16 new cases have come to light, half of them related to terrorism allegations, the German government revealed at the request of Sevim Dağdelen, a lawmaker formerly with the far-left Linke Party. The response was seen by dpa.
Detentions and exit bans are a recurring issue between Germany and Turkey.
The German government has also been recording entry bans on Germans travelling to Turkey since mid-2022, according to the government's information. In 2023, 43 cases are known in which entry was denied. The reasons for this are not known.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is travelling to Germany on Friday for the first time in three years. In addition to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, he will also meet President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) had also received 238 Interpol search requests for arrest this year up to the end of September. It was not clear from the answer what the results of the investigations were or what their background was.
