Heavy snowfall and low temperatures at Munich's airport on Friday has forced major delays and the cancellation of more than 100 take-offs and landings, reported dpa.

As things stand, around 130 flights are unable to take off or land, an airport spokesman said. At least one runway at the airport must be kept clear at all times, with crews working to clear each runway of snow alternately, he said.

Passengers were urged to contact their airline to find out about any cancellations or delay.

The airport anticipates further cancellations due to the winter weather, the spokesman said. Munich is Germany's second busiest airport, after Frankfurt.

Snow is forecast to fall continuously in Munich through Saturday, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).
